I don’t think that’s how it works. You put excess energy back into the big “pot” that is the electricity grid, and whatever you take out comes from the pot, not your own individual input. But it still makes sense to put in your excess.

Community solar needs to improve, and solar needs to start at a home-by-home level at first in order to scale I believe. Way more incentives for someone to go solar:

From what I’ve read, if connected to the grid you give the utility companies energy and THEY SELL YOU BACK YOUR OWN ENERGY. If you don’t even have your own solar, you really lose.
